Essential Tools for Truck Drivers on the Road – Part 1 1920 960 System Transport

Fall is here! That means making sure your truck is stocked with some essential tools that every System Transport Flatbed driver needs. Here’s part 1 of our ongoing series, Essential Tools for Truck Drivers on the Road.

Large water jug with dispenser for drinking water storage

Large water jugs with a dispenser are great for drinking and cooking. Many truck drivers will tell you that they are an absolute must. Fill it up and travel worry free that you will have enough water all the time. When it comes time to get a drink or use some water for cooking a meal in your truck you will have it covered!

Good gloves

Flatbedders are outside and quite physical with each load regardless of weather conditions. Every flatbedder needs a few good pairs of gloves. With colder conditions in the autumn and unpredictable weather, it’s smart to keep a pair of nice gloves on hand. Flatbed truck drivers are going to need to get some high quality mechanic gloves that are visible at night as well as daytime. It never hurts to wear gloves that will help you be seen by other drivers. Most truck drivers will tell you that it’s well worth it to buy 2 or 3 pairs of these gloves so that you always have some on stand by.

Cranking flashlight – not battery powered

When it is an emergency and you need light right away you should have a cranking flashlight. This way you don’t have to worry about batteries and whether or not they are charged. Just crank away and you are guaranteed light. Always a good tool to have on the road for truckers in an emergency.

Windshield washer fluid

Windshield washer fluid should be a part of every System Transport Flatbed truck driver’s tool kit as well. Company drivers should check their level regularly, and have the shop top it off before you hit the road. Owner operators – get yourself a few bottles of it so that you don’t have to buy it while driving and waste precious time. This is especially true during the fall and winter months when windshields and wiper blades take a real beating from falling debris and unpredictable weather conditions.

First aid kit for emergencies

A first aid kit is something you should have in your truck with you at all times. You never know when the next cut or scrape will happen. Having a good first aid kit prepares you for the unexpected while on the road.

We will be covering more essential trucker tools each month on our blog. Stay tuned!
